DIWA partners with
Alzheimer's Association

A Partnership Born from Purpose

When DIWA founder Kyle Beltran's mother was diagnosed with dementia and his grandmother was already in late-stage Alzheimer's, he realized the cultural wisdom and family stories he had yet to learn would soon be lost forever. This moment led to DIWA's creation. Now we're using our platform to support the work of the Alzheimer’s Association. We're honored to announce our partnership with the Alzheimer's Association Oregon and Washington Chapter, joining their "Do What You Love to End Alz" campaign.

Our Commitment
Through this partnership, DIWA is taking action on multiple fronts:

Financial Support
A portion of proceeds from our Prologue: EPHEMERALITY event will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association Oregon and Washington Chapter to support research and family resources.

Community Fundraising
We've launched a dedicated campaign page with a goal of raising $5,000 for the Alzheimer's Association Oregon and Washington Chapter. Every dollar supports vital research and provides resources for families navigating this disease.

Story Collection Initiative
We're launching "Stories That Stay With Us," a community story-collecting campaign where guests can record meaningful memories. Whether it's a culturally significant tradition, a treasured conversation with an elder, or a childhood moment that shaped you, your story deserves to be preserved. One recorded story will be selected to be the feature story in our April 2026 issue, woven together with Filipino history—continuing the narrative approach established in Prologue: EPHEMERALITY.

Why This Partnership Matters
For Filipino American families, cultural knowledge often lives only in the memories of our elders. When dementia and Alzheimer's take those memories, entire pieces of our oral traditions begin to disappear. This partnership allows us to address memory loss on two critical fronts: supporting research for future prevention while actively preserving the stories we can still capture today.

This work feels deeply personal to us. Through storytelling, fundraising, and community engagement, we're building a future where families can keep their elders' wisdom while supporting research that could prevent others from experiencing this loss.
