FAHM 2026 in Portland: Events, Screenings, and Where to Eat

One year ago this month, DIWA barely existed outside a handful of friends and a summer project that got out of hand. Two weeks before our first event, I looked for every excuse I could find to cancel it. My husband and a couple of very stubborn friends wouldn’t let me. On October 10, 2025, more than 100 people walked through three rooms at The Hoxton to see what DIWA was.

So October is DIWA’s birthday month, and this year Portland has plenty going on. New to FAHM? Start with what it is and why it’s in October.

We’re having a moment

The Filipino community is having a moment here in Portland, and nationally too. FilipiƱana is headed to the Oscars as the Philippines’ official submission, and DreamWorks’ Forgotten Island is bringing Philippine folklore to the big screen. If you have kids who love a good animated movie, take them. The story works for everyone, whatever their background.

It’s validating for our community to finally be seen. And it matters just as much that our allies show up for us.

What’s on this October

October in Portland is a great time to experience our culture up close.

Oct 24: FAHM Night at Sun Rice. Event details.

Oct 25: DIWA presents FilipiƱana at The Hoxton. It’s the Sundance Special Jury Award winner and the Philippines’ official submission for the 99th Academy Awards. The film is in Tagalog with English subtitles. The screening sold out, but the waitlist keeps growing, and we may add a second screening, so film lovers should get on the waitlist. A portion of every ticket goes to the Alzheimer’s Association’s Do What You Love to End Alz campaign, and you can give there even if you can’t make it.

Oct 30: Comedy Night at PAMANA with Rex Navarrete. Event details.

Where to eat

Eat, drink, and shop Filipino. The first chicken adobo I had in Portland tasted exactly like my grandmother’s. It came from a food cart called Baon Kainan, which is now PAMANA. Start there, then work your way through the list:

  • PAMANA: Filipino restaurant in Old Town

  • Sun Rice: Filipino restaurant on North Williams

  • Eat Balong: Filipino breakfast sandwiches in the Jade District

  • Barkada Coffee: Filipino coffee shop next to Shop Halo Halo

  • Shop Halo Halo: Filipino bakery in the Pearl, inside Union Way

  • Tambayan: traditional mom-and-pop Filipino restaurant on Powell

  • Kalesa: Filipino coffee shop near the Boise neighborhood

  • Makulit: Filipino food cart at the PDX Food Haus pod

  • Kubo: Filipino restaurant in Bethany

See you out there

If you go to any of these, tag us at @diwamag. We’d love to see what you wore.
